Ethicon, Inc., a member of the Johnson & Johnson Family of Companies is currently recruiting for an Environmental, Health and Safety Manager, located in Cornelia, GA.

The Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) Manager will develop and implement environmental, health and safety systems that protect the environment, human health and safety while complying with federal, state and local regulatory requirements, as well as satisfy Johnson & Johnson’s beyond compliance goals.

The EHS Manager will administer Ethicon and Johnson & Johnson Corporate safety and environmental policies at the site. Stay current with environmental and safety requirements, keep the site staff informed of their responsibilities and assure delivery of training programs that educate the workforce on carrying out their responsibilities in a compliant manner. Manage process safety programs by monitoring activities mandated under Occupational, Health and Safety Administration (OSHA) Process Safety Management regulations, the Management of Highly Hazardous Chemicals and United States Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA) regulations for the Prevention of Accidental Chemical Releases. Manage the compliance of site environmental permits. Serve as site contact for environmental and safety affairs for federal, state and local agencies. Serve as Chair of the Right to Exist Committee. Oversee and coordinate outsourced, contracted and Corporate Shared Service personnel to assure satisfactory performance and achievement of safety and environmental goals. Provide guidance to these groups through communication of priorities and business needs. Manage the site-wide emergency response team including the investigation, reporting and follow-up of all safety and environmental incidents. Develop and implement systems to monitor plant activities of production, maintenance and contractors to assure compliance with safety and environmental procedures. Review and analyze compliance data to monitor performance trends and to develop programs for continuous performance improvement. Coordinate of execution safety and environmental capital projects

The EHS Manager will participate in annual process safety management audits and conducts process hazard analysis. Successfully complete regulatory and job training requirements. Understand and responsibly perform duties with attention to quality, safety and environmental matters. Items include: wearing appropriate personal protective equipment; recognizing, reporting and appropriately responding to hazards in the work area (spills/accidents/near misses); maintaining proper housekeeping at all time; properly labeling and storing chemicals. This individual will carry out duties in compliance with all state and federal regulations and guidelines including Food and Drug Administration (FDA), Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and OSHA. Comply with all company and site policies and procedures.

The EHS Manager will maintain the Management of Change Process according to the requirements of OSHA Process Safety Management Standards, and FDA Current Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs). Follow all applicable aspects of the site Environmental Management System as it pertains to normal job duties. Ensure the requirements of ISO 14001 are established, implemented and maintained. Schedule and lead annual Safety and Environmental self-assessments. Oversee safety and environmental audit programs. Make a positive contribution as demonstrated by: making suggestions for improvement; providing overtime as needed; learning new skills, procedures and processes; remaining current in skills and industry trends.

The EHS Manager will directly supervise employees in the Environmental and Safety departments. Establish priorities and monitor performance for outsourced, contracted and Corporate Shared Service personnel dedicated to achievement of safety and environmental goals. Responsibilities will include: interviewing, hiring, contractor selection and appropriate training of such personnel; planning, assigning and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems; participating in contract negotiation for third party support.

Qualifications


A minimum of Bachelor's degree in Environmental Engineering, Environmental Sciences, Safety Science Engineering or related technical discipline is required. A minimum of 5 years of related Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) experience is required. Experience in a manufacturing environment is preferred. Knowledge of manufacturing processes and equipment preferred. Experience in a management/supervisory role is preferred. Experience working in a FDA regulated environment is preferred. Knowledge of Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs) and ISO 14001 regulations preferred. Knowledge of government environmental regulations (EPA, OSHA) and Process Safety Management standards required. Project management experience is preferred. Training experience is preferred. Knowledge of Lean manufacturing techniques preferred. Certified Safety Professional (CSP) certification is preferred. Knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) is required. Experience with Corrective Action/Preventative Action (CAPA) tracking systems preferred. The ability to apply advanced mathematical concepts, such as exponents, logarithms, quadratic equations and permutations, preferred. The ability to effectively present information and respond to sensitive questions from top managers, public groups, regulators and government officials required. Must have excellent oral and written communication skills. Must have strong attention to detail and analytical problem-solving skills. The ability to collaborate with all levels of management in a cross-functional team environment is required.
