Global Lead Safety Data Sheet Program & GHS (to be located in either Beerse, Belgium or New Brunswick, New Jersey, US)
Basic purpose of the role:
The Manager Safety Data Sheet & GHS will provide leadership for the J&J Global Safety Data Sheet (SDS) Program and lead compliance with the Global Harmonized System (GHS) regulations worldwide. S/he will develop a strategy to build and streamline our SDS processes across the enterprise and ensure a strong data maintenance process related to the SDS/labelling program is in place. S/he will coordinate the SDS authoring program and GHS compliance for the pharmaceutical business of J&J (Janssen), and work very closely with the SDS coordinators in Consumer and Medical Devices (MDD).
Key Relationships:
The Manager Safety Data Sheet & GHS will work closely with key Business Partners like R&D and Supply Chain to ensure pro-active, lean and compliant processes are in place. The position will also work very closely with internal and external people that are expert in toxicology, ecotoxicology, transportation, labelling, IT, industrial hygiene, process safety and EHS&S, primarily in Janssen, but in other business units as well.
Key responsibilities:
- Develop a J&J strategy to build a compliant enterprise-wide Safety Data Sheet program and ensure the company is complying with global GHS regulations.
- Partner with key stakeholders in the organization to develop a SDS strategy for Janssen and implement the necessary processes to build world-class data maintenance processes relevant for the SDS and labelling program.
- Together with the global and local cross-sector SDS teams & relevant business partners, s/he will play a key role within the Product Stewardship Compliance team by taking responsibility for SDS classification, authoring and labelling.
- Develop global procedures, guidelines and tools to support the relevant SDS/GHS program, taking into account the different regional and local needs.
- Develop an IT strategy that will support and anticipate the future needs to manage SDS and related data maintenance requirements in an efficient way. Participate in cross-sector IT initiatives (B2B) to integrate SDS/GHS/Labelling requirements into new business and IT processes/systems.
- Lead different IT projects to further implement & improve the SAP EHS module for the authoring of Janssen SDSs. Align with other Product Stewardship & Business (IT) initiatives to stimulate harmonization, efficiency and compliance.
- Lead a global team of J&J employees and consultants responsible for the global SDS front desk to respond to daily business requests; author the SDSs for the Janssen (Consumer/MDD) product portfolio and provide expert advice and recommendations to the enterprise.
- Develop training material to increase the awareness and knowledge within the company and increase the visibility of the program by developing a communication strategy that fits the needs of our internal and external customers.
- Collaborate closely with external supply and procurement to ensure J&J requirements are clear and well communicated to our suppliers and customers.
- Develop and conduct regulatory audits and self-assessments to ensure compliance with SDS/GHS regulations worldwide. Maintains checklists to be used for performing self-assessments.
- Provide expert input to stimulate harmonization in labelling across the enterprise and work closely with regional/local product stewardship representatives to evaluate local legal requirements.
- Support different Product Stewardship initiatives across the enterprise (e.g. REACH?) with a concentration on Janssen – working with the Director of PS Compliance.
- Represent J&J at PS organizations and leverages learning’s across the enterprise.
- Lead compliance with GHS regulations working with key vendors and other members of the PS organization. Track compliance status across the enterprise and brings visibility to management on compliance gaps.
- Be recognized within the enterprise as the expert on Safety Data Sheets and GHS and liaison with different business groups/leaders to get support for the programs and new initiatives.
Qualifications
- University/Bachelor’s degree or equivalent, EHS / engineering preferred
- 8-10 years of relevant experience, environmental engineering / product stewardship preferred
- Relevant experience with setting up and managing a SDS program in a global context.
- Previous experience in a regulatory or product safety role in the chemicals/biological/pharm (Consumer/MDD) industry is highly desirable.
- Good working knowledge on toxicology, ecotoxicology & physico-chemical properties of pharmaceutical products is desirable.
- Proven SDS authoring experience is essential, as well as being familiar with the GHS requirements.
- Relevant experience in setting up IT projects to facilitate data management processes. Experience in working with SAP EHS is an asset.
- Broad understanding of SDS/GHS regulations and experience in deploying regulatory compliance systems.
- EHS&S auditing experience (setting up auditing systems and performing auditing), with focus on product stewardship (SDS, GHS, REACH?.).
- Exposure to global project management and familiarity with key project management principles. Able to balance team objectives with meeting customer requests.
- Influencing skills necessary to make a good business case and drive change.
- Strong collaboration & communication skills; able to effectively engage and convene diverse groups and lead teams.
- Proven leadership skills to be able to manage global teams with different professional & cultural backgrounds.
- Attention to detail and able to see the big picture.
- English (Dutch, French, German a plus but not required)
