SUMMARY OF THE JOB

Responsible for the development and execution of strategies using clinical and economic evidence to mitigate reimbursement or other barriers that can inhibit market adoption of procedures that use BWI technology and limit patient access to treatment. Determines strategic fit of investigator-initiated research proposals and serves as company liaison with investigator-sponsors.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

- Develops value propositions for cardiac ablation and BWI technology for economically influenced stakeholders (e.g., Health Technology Assessment (HTA) organizations, payers and hospital administrators);
- Teams with regional Market Access and other local HE&R experts on the development and implementation of reimbursement / health policy strategies to increase market adoption of procedures utilizing BWI products;
- Communicates evidence to positively affect procedure coverage and payment, HTA reviews and value proposition of products in the market;
- Proactively identifies policies, legislation, regulations and private sector trends related to coverage, payment and health policy that are likely to affect BWI, determines strategic implications and recommends course of action to various BWI stakeholders;
- Partners with Business Unit Directors to drive business strategy;
- Manages the efficient and timely development of health economics data / deliverables (value dossier, publications, and economic models);
- Supports investigator-sponsored research program by meeting with physicians to determine strategic fit of research, review study plan / design, and communicate company support of research;
- Supports Clinical Operations with study site selection, protocol review and the inclusion of economic and quality of life endpoints in company funded clinical studies;
- Partners with Marketing to create economic sales tools;
- Develops reimbursement strategies for new products and provides input to the pricing of new products as requested;
- Supports R&D and Business Development by providing reimbursement assessments of products in development or potential business development opportunities as requested;
- Trains Sales and Marketing personnel where appropriate, to support knowledge in health policy, reimbursement, evidence-based medicine;
- Supports outcomes research studies, primarily performed through outside consultants as required;
- Represents BWI views with trade groups, health policy stakeholders and Johnson & Johnson Market Access organization;
- Interacts with key opinion leaders, attends industry meetings, etc. to stay knowledgeable and up-to-date on issues impacting business;
- Identifies and manages consultants and vendors external to the company;
- Manages project budgets, and performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

REQUIRED EDUCATION/TRAINING and/or EXPERIENCE

Masters or PhD in health economics, health policy or business administration with focus on health care. Candidate will have at least 5 years experience in the medical device or pharmaceutical industry at the management level and experience with cardiovascular medicine, preferably electrophysiology. Previous experience with Health Technology Assessment agencies, the EU institutions, trade associations, and KOLs of professional societies required.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES and CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSES

Successful candidate will have a strong technical background in evidence-based medicine, health economics, reimbursement or health policy and a track record of success. They must have understanding of processes and decision-making criteria for evaluating new technologies and for determining their value. Additionally, they must have the following:

- Strong business presence and acumen;
- Strong quantitative and analytical skills;
- Understands the different methods of economic evaluation; conversant with instruments addressing QOL and other Patient Reported Outcomes;
- Understands study designs that produce clinically and economically relevant data for economic stakeholders;
- Ability to develop and communicate economic models and analyses;
- Demonstrated ability to develop long-range plans and future business strategies;
- Ability to manage multiple projects through successful outcome;
- Must be an innovative and creative team player with the ability to work across multiple organizations at every level;
- Advanced proficiency with PowerPoint, Word, and Excel software;
- Fluent in English, with excellent communication and presentation skills; and must be able to travel overnight as needed.
