JOB TITLE: Automation Engineer
DEPARTMENT: Manufacturing Engineering
REPORTS TO: Manufacturing Engineering Manager
ORGANISATIONAL INTERFACES:
All DePuy & J&J locations and external suppliers
SUMMARY OF JOB:
The position will involve the development and implementation of a DePuy Cluster Energy Strategy. This position will also entail the development and implementation of key Automation systems that support the advancement of the Advanced Engineering Group. The position is a Cluster role with expectations that efficiencies and practices in Energy and Automation are transferred across the DePuy Cluster.
PRINCIPLE ACCOUNTABILITIES:
1. Automation Engineering
• Support the implementation of the DePuy Automation Strategy across the Cork Site
• Identify and manage automation requirements for key development projects for the Manufacturing Engineering Function
• Support the standardization of automation practices across the manufacturing Engineering Projects
• Ensure commercial alignment between DePuy and its collaborative partners in the delivery of automation solutions to the DePuy Cluster
• Support the roll-out and understanding of automation practices within the DePuy Operations functions
• Support the alignment of the DePuy Automation function to MD&D
• Support, develop, test and install PLC and control software as part of a highly automated, complex, high volume validated production systems
• Develop Functional and Detailed Design Specifications from User Requirement Specifications
• Develop high quality right first time PLC and HMI code development strategy from Functional and Detailed Design Specifications
• Adopt responsibility for the project management of control systems and software based projects across a cross functional multidiscipline team environment.
• Participates on and lead projects, provide technical support and make informed decisions on hardware and architecture selection.
• Monitor and analyze opportunities for the development of new or improved tools for process improvement activities.
• Identify and lead cost and technical improvements as part of the ongoing continuous improvement programs.
• Fault-find complex automation equipment
• Maintain comprehensive documentation of code to Medical Device standards
• Prioritize multiple tasks while working to tight schedules
2. Business Results
• Is acknowledged as a subject matter expert in a relevant technical field and influences associated site-wide technology planning
• Provides guidance to product and technology teams
• Implement Company Business Plan Objectives & strive to exceed Business results
• Identify capital spend and budget requirements for automation & business Projects

Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE:
• Bachelor Degree in Engineering, Computer Science or equivalent degree
• 3/4 years’ experience working with automated control systems
• Strong PLC background in Siemens S7, APT, Allen Bradley ControlLogix 5000, Pilz Safety PLCs and HMI software
• Accustomed to working in a validated environment with strong discipline with regard to change control.
• Additional knowledge of printer systems, vision systems, robotics, BCR and RFID systems would be beneficial
