The Senior Controls Engineer will have the primary responsibility over the Controls/Electrical design and implementation for plant and facility equipment. This position will lead the equipment obsolescence programs through the implementation of New Technology, Automation, Engineering, or Capital projects for liquid process and filling operations within an FDA/cGMP compliant environment. The objective of projects will to improve manufacturing efficiency, reliability, compliance and/or capacity. Projects will be related to facilities or equipment used in the Los Angeles Plant (LAP) Manufacturing site, including compounding, filling/packing area, facilities, and warehouses. A majority of projects will include electrical and controls upgrades, but not limited to.
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each Major duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. The Senior Controls Engineer leads on equipment selection or solution, design, integration, capital justification, project management, specifications, drawings, installation, commissioning, qualification, calibration, and maintenance turnover. The position will ensure projects meet and comply with electrical standards with LAP’s policies, procedures, quality, EHS/FDA regulatory and industry. It leads and develops all aspects of engineering capital projects and requests, implements manufacturing equipment capital projects in the categories of compliance, capacity increase, process improvement, and cost improvement and leads or prepares user requirements, functional requirements, and design specifications.
The Senior Controls Engineer leads or performs testing of specifications of equipment and/or components, prepares and manages request for quotations and manages change control for equipment changes and lead project deliverables. The position leads projects with cross functional alignment with core team members and stakeholders, manages project cost, timeline, scope and communication with project team including vendors and Site Sponsor for any vendors related to project work. It will follow finance & procurement procedures for cost tracking, adherence to budgets, soliciting of bids, purchasing and contracts, provide functional team support and manufacturing troubleshooting support as required and collect data/information, cultivates resources, conducts assessments as required for projects. This position is based in Los Angeles, CA and requires 10% domestic and international travel.
Qualifications
A minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in Controls, Electrical Engineering or any related Engineering Degree required. Experience in highly regulated FDA/GMP environment is preferred. It is required to have experience with reading electrical schematics, equipment specifications and experience of equipment purchasing and experience with PLC’s. It is required to possess experience with equipment factory acceptance, commissioning and installation. It is required to have experience with equipment specifications, experience with equipment purchasing and equipment factory acceptance, commissioning and installation and experience with vendor contracts.
It is preferred the Senior Controls Engineer possess experience with capital project justification, execution and multiple project management, supervision of contractors during the implementation of projects, successful development/installation of mixers/ kettles and filling/packaging machinery and PLC programming. It is required to possess Software proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite. It is required the Senior Controls Engineer have the ability to adhere to J&J EHS regulations at all times and notify any violation or deviation to his/her safety administrator and or supervisor.
It is required the Senior Controls Engineer possess the ability to read, analyze and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations, the ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals and the ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public. It is required to have the ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions and the ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstracts and variables. This position is based in Los Angeles, CA and requires 10% domestic and international travel.
