Advanced Sterilization Products Division of Ethicon, Inc., a member of Johnson & Johnson's Family of Companies, is currently recruiting for a Staff Scientist, Chemistry, located in Irvine, CA.

The purpose of this role is to initiate research projects to evaluate the development and assessment of new technologies for potential products following regulatory guidelines (FDA, TGA, ISO etc.). Prepare and execute protocols / research studies to support product development from feasibility to final product verification / validation. Analysis of situations / data and in-depth evaluation of various identifiable factors in the following areas: microbiology, biocompatibility, antimicrobial, disinfection and sterilization efficacy. Ensures quality of projects including design, execute, data summary and interpretation, report preparation /review adhere to GDP and applicable regulations. Prepare and review written information to provide products support. Oversee microbiology laboratory equipment validation program. May provide guidance and work direction to lower level research scientists and provide support for OOS and CAPA investigations.

It is required to have the ability to design, conduct and interpret experiments to support product improvement, product stewardship and business continuity related projects. Good knowledge of chemistry test methodologies related to medical devices and antimicrobial products is also required. The ability to use and apply standard microbiology principles, techniques and other related disciplines is also required. It is required to possess the ability to work within cross functional teams to reach consensus. Also required, a successful candidate must possess the necessary scientific techniques to independently troubleshoot product quality issues of a complex nature with a sense of urgency. Effective communication of project status / results to others is also required.

Current awareness of the advances in new trends / needs in sterilization / disinfection, microbiology and biocompatibility is preferred. Also preferred is the ability to consciously seek out new ideas and applications through journals, patents, scientific reviews, and technical meetings.

Qualifications


BS or MS in Chemistry. With a BS: 6+ years and, and with an MS: 2+ years experience in Medical Devices or related industries. Must possess effective oral and written communication skills as well as demonstrate the ability to effectively function in a cross-functional team environment. Must be able to provide direction to assign staff on performing duties and ensure understanding of and compliance with applicable laboratory and safety procedures. Have a strong working knowledge of QSR, FDA / ISO guidelines. Working experiences with chemical germicides, enzymatic detergent and sterilizer, OOS and CAPA a plus

This position is located in Irvine, CA and required negligible travel.
