Our Limerick site uses the most advanced technology in the world to control and manage highly complex and automated production processes. We utilize state of the art technologies such as injection moulding, robotics, vision and sterilization systems to produce daily disposable contact lenses.
The Limerick facility, originally open in 1995 as a purpose built facility for the production of contact lenses, has seen significant growth through the years. This ongoing growth in demand for contact lenses is seeing the expansion of the limerick facility and the creation of exciting opportunities within the Engineering function. These positions will support the optimization and continuous improvement of the current production lines with responsibility been added for the new production lines, once in production.
Position Summary:
The Successful Engineers will take a leading role in providing Software and Automation support activities on a large number of highly complex and integrated, automated manufacturing lines. Primarily utilizing Siemens (APT) and AB PLC software skills to debug line performance, uptime and cycle time issues. They will work as part of a cross functional team in the identification and implementation of continuous improvement software projects, working with mechanical and process engineers providing software solutions. The scope of work can also involve working with project and other software engineers on capital equipment projects including installation, debug and optimization efforts.
The Engineers will work on projects between organization and sub-contractors from beginning of the design process, through installation and start-up process of both large capital equipment projects and smaller continuous improvement projects. The successful candidates will work closely with other engineering disciplines in the development and application of expert troubleshooting of equipment and processes.
Main Duties and Responsibilities:
- Develop, test and install PLC and control software as part of a highly automated, complex, high volume 24/7 validated production environment
- Develop Functional and Detailed Design Specifications from User Requirement Specifications on integrated, highly complex, automated manufacturing lines.
- Develop high quality right first time PLC and HMI code development strategy from Functional and Detailed Design Specifications
- Adopt responsibility for the project management of control systems and software based projects across a cross functional multidiscipline team environment.
- Participates on and lead project teams, provide technical support and make informed decisions on hardware and architecture selection.
- Monitor and analyze opportunities for the development of new or improved tools for process improvement activities.
- Identify and lead cost and technical improvements under the departments’ continuous improvement program.
- Fault-find complex automation equipment
- Maintain comprehensive documentation of code to Medical Device standards
- Prioritize multiple tasks while working to tight schedules
Qualifications
Education and Experience:
- Primary Degree (Level 8) in an appropriate engineering or Computer Science with minimum 4 years experience.
- Relevant experience with automated control systems.
- Strong PLC background in Siemens S7, APT, Allen Bradley ControlLogix 5000, Pilz Safety PLCs and Wonderware Intouch/ArchestrA HMI software.
- Additional knowledge of printer systems, vision systems, robotics, BCR and RFID systems would be beneficial
- Excellent analytical and problem solving skills, root cause analysis and risk assessments with a strong attention to detail.
- Ability to work on own initiative.
- Good interpersonal and communication skills with proven leadership abilities.
- Familiarity with manufacturing and validation in a regulated (FDA or IMB) environment an advantage.
- Must be flexible and able to manage multiple priorities simultaneously.
- Experience of lean concepts such as 5S and standard work would be an advantage.
