Reporting to the Director - Manufacturing Engineering, Global Medical Solutions Cluster, the Manager of Manufacturing Engineering is responsible for leading and directing engineering and technology activities in alignment with site and Franchise objectives. He/She ensures scientific and technologically based continuous improvement for the business unit and provides overall leadership to the engineering group, setting operational strategies, establishing business focused goals and objectives, and continued talent development of the Engineering Team. Responsibilities also include the long term planning, development, qualification and implementation of next generation manufacturing processes and automation technologies. This individual leads the engineering teams across all Make ASP sites.
In this role, the Manager of Manufacturing Engineering will deploy technical solutions. He/she will develop capability to coordinate and leverage talent and best practices in Engineering & Technology. Key areas of focus will include (1) Talent Development and leverage across sites (2) Project Management for quality and efficiency improvement, CIP, process upgrades and replacements, (3) Tactical deployment of “technology roadmaps” (4) Base business product management, and BCP. The Manager of Manufacturing Engineering will provide technical leadership to the manufacturing organization at the respective sites with respect to product/ process design and functionality.
The Manager of Manufacturing Engineering will retain the relationship with the franchise engineering organization to ensure constant collaboration. This individual will also be responsible for all technical talent development and the leveraging of talent and solutions. The Manager steers Collaboration with internal and external partners to drive execution and ensures scope projection of tasks including compliance and quality improvement, cost reduction, cycle time reduction, capacity increase, and raw material qualification. This individual will develop, in partnership with advanced engineering, technology roadmaps and continually evaluate new innovative processes for competitive advantage and provides support, development and training of subordinates to meet "state of the art" approaches to business requirements. This individual will ensure personal motivation of staff to create an innovative work environment.
The Manager of Manufacturing Engineering will manage activities concerned with technical developments and resolve engineering design and test problems as well as manage the technical issue escalation process. The Manager of Manufacturing Engineering will design and implement processes that provide for a high level of internal customer satisfaction. This individual will also evaluate and implement improved Manufacturing Engineering performance, management, and tracking methods to monitor and control costs that will allow the company to complete projects on time and under budget. This individual will develop and manage to expense and capital budgets per our strategic forecasts and will ensure compliance in all aspects of Environmental, Health and Safety per J&J standards.
Qualifications
A minimum of a Bachelors degree is required in an Engineering or Science discipline. An advanced degree, such as an MS or an MBA is preferred. A minimum of 10 years overall business experience is required. It is preferred to have previous Manufacturing Engineering and/or Operations experience within a highly regulated industry. Talent Development experience is a must. The ability to translate engineering goals and objectives into successful strategies that lead to tactical plans is required. The ability to develop people, manage technology, embrace financial goals and utilize customer-focused decision making is required. Change management, project management, the ability to work effectively and drive alignment in a global environment through strong communication and empowerment is required.
This individual must demonstrate a working knowledge of process development and validation, including design of experiments, statistical analysis, and project management. A deep knowledge and understanding of continuous improvement tools, lean manufacturing and six-sigma is required. Experience with equipment maintenance and knowledge of computerized maintenance standards are required. Product cost management experience is required. Experience with cost improvement programs, budgets as well as capital budget are required. Experience working within a matrix environment is required. This individual must have proven Change Management Skills (Change Integration Process). Assertive Influencing & Collaboration/Teaming skills are required. Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required.
This position is located in Irvine, CA and may require up to 25% travel (domestic & international).
