Description
The Manager EHS&S External Supply is a key member of J&J external supply business teams. S/he is responsible for EHS compliance & risk management at our strategic external suppliers in China - mainly those selected for the commercial production of active pharmaceutical ingredients and intermediates and finished products of J&J. The Manager will spend the majority of his/her time at one or more supplier site(s), serving as the single point of contact for EHS&S, improving EHS&S systems and knowledge, developing local EHS&S capability, deploying pro-active risk identification/mitigation and facilitating a strong relationship between J&J and the supplier.
PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
Support the EHS function at external suppliers with the implementation of a complete EHS&S management system covering all EHS&S aspects. The position will emphasize the following high risk domains: compliance with legislation, PSM (Process Safety Management), IH (Industrial Hygiene) and WWT (Waste Water Treatment). 50%
Implement system based ownership of EHS&S. As needed, train the supplier staff so as to end up with a mature EHS&S organization and systems, applied consistently; well-trained subject matter experts at the supplier(s); and suppliers that are increasinly self-reliant for EHS&S. 25%
Improve supplier performance & capability by applying mature EHS&S risk identification, developing improvement plans for supplier EHS&S performance, and systematically correcting so as to reduce the EHS&S risks and to end up with facilities and processes fully compliant with local legislation and standards. 25%
Qualifications
RELATED EXPERIENCE :
Position requires 9-12 years experience in EHS&S, preferably in a pharmaceutical manufacturing environment.
Technical expertise in PSM, IH and WWT and general safety managent is crucial.
Deep understanding of typical unit operations and related process equipment.
Experience/affinity with chemical production processes.
Fluent in English and Mandarin.
Must have cross-cultural mindset.
Must be highly skilled at collaboration and comfortable working in a matrix organization.
Must have good auditing and communication skills with all levels in the organization.
Must have critical mind-set, not satisfied with status quo.
Position requires high degree of:
- Problem-solving abilities in order to solve issues within regulatory constraints and
- Communication skills in order to manage the relationship with the supplier and the internal J&J organization (for both supplier and internal J&J organization, all levels in the organization).
Position requires ability to be innovative / creative to devise options for successfully resolving supply issues and generating new value creation opportunities.
Position requires frequent interaction with supplier senior management to follow-up on action plans, foster continuous improvement/innovation and resolve issues. Hence influencing skills are critical in the role. The Manager acts as a representative of J&J to the external world and s/he will have frequent interaction with individuals at all levels in procurement, quality, EHS&S, supply chain and technical groups across J&J. Good communication and collaboration skills are a must.
Physically fit to work in an API-manufacturing facility (= chemical/pharmaceutical industry environment).
The position is based in Shanghai, however, for the next 1.5-2 years, the candidate will split their time between Wuxi (home at night) and Langhua (away from home). Hence travel is 50%. Upon the maturity of EHS&S at these locations, the person will continue to support other suppliers in the region.
