The Director will be part of the Informatics organization within R&D IT. The informatics group manages data warehouses, knowledge management and decision support applications and data analysis activities across the discovery to development spectrum. Sources of medical data range from internal and collaborative translational studies, internal clinical trials, health outcomes database, registries, electronic medical records and social media.

The primary role of the Director is to lead the design, development and application of informatics methods and tools to support a broad range of scientific questions from multiple stakeholders across the discovery and development spectrum. He/she will be responsible for the establishment of data standards in the acquisition and processing of clinical data sets using industry and local standards wherever possible, such as MedRA, SNOMED, CDISC and RxNorm. These standards will be used to support the development of software tools, applications, and analyses to support business uses across R&D and the Enterprise, including Therapeutic Areas, Quantitative Sciences, General Medical Safety, Epidemiology, Health Economics and Outcomes Research, Medical Affairs. The candidate will foster collaborations internally across sectors and with external academic collaborators in conjunction with multiple therapeutic area and functional initiatives globally.

The Director will lead a group of IT professionals and analysts who will establish and operate clinical and health outcomes databases and provide analytic tools and analysis as required. The candidate will be responsible for interacting with multiple business groups and developing informatics strategies to maintain a portfolio of medical informatics activities. He/she will keep current with industry and academic approaches to analyzing clinical and translational data and build a leading medical informatics group.

Qualifications


A PhD with at least 8 years of experience in informatics, statistics, health services research and/or epidemiology, OR an MD with at least 3 years of experience in informatics, statistics, health services research and/or epidemiology preferably within a pharmaceutical setting is required.

Solid foundation of both technical and scientific knowledge in clinical medicine and clinical informatics is required.

Strong knowledge of informatics principles and practical application, including various data standards is required.

Outstanding oral and written communication skills are required.

The ability to work in a cross functional, matrix organization managing individuals with multidisciplinary backgrounds is required.

25% travel (domestic & international) is required.
