Works on problems and projects of moderate scope where analysis of situation or data requires a review of identifiable factors. Selects design direction or modifications of components of systems. Participates in decisions on scope of work, selection of equipment and length of tasks. Provides and develops solutions to problems of limited scope. Must be able to accomplish broad and complex assignments. May provide technical guidance to lower level personnel.
Under limited supervision and in accordance with all applicable federal, state and local laws/regulations and Corporate Johnson & Johnson, procedures and guidelines, the duties of this position may include:
Fully competent engineer in all conventional aspects of the subject matter, functional area, and assignments. Plans and conducts work requiring judgment in the independent evaluation, selection, and substantial adaptation and modification of standard techniques, procedures, and criteria. Devises new approaches to problems encountered.
Independently performs most assignments with instructions as to the general results expected. Receives technical guidance on unusual or complex problems and supervisory approval on proposed plans for projects. Plans, schedules, conducts, and coordinates detailed phases of engineering work in part of a major project or in a total project of moderate scope. Performs work that involves conventional engineering practice but may include a variety of complex features such as conflicting design requirements, unsuitability of conventional materials, and difficult coordination requirements.
Work requires broad knowledge of precedents in the specialty area and good knowledge of principles and practices of relates specialties. Offers suggestions for and may implement improvements in operating time, yields, ergonomics, handling, etc. Performs detailed industrial engineering assessments including process capabilities (cPKs), line design and balancing, and flow optimization. Responsible for various line metrics and line support in ensuring production quotas and product quality are achieved . Write or update work instructions, part specifications, validation protocols, test reports, service reports, routine reports and correspondence, develop, proof read and update technical documents (ECOs, cPDM)
Train associates to manufacturing operations, to certified operations, documentation, and regulatory requirements. Suggestions revision/changes to manufacturing documents as appropriate. May technically supervise or coordinate the work of engineers, draftspersons, technicians, and others who assist in specific assignments.
Responsible for performing design reviews and pre-validation assessments to ensure the safe and environmentally sound start-up of new processes. Responsible for communicating business related issues or opportunities to next management level. Responsible for ensuring subordinates follow all Company guidelines related to Health, Safety and Environmental practices and that all resources needed to do so are available and in good condition. Responsible for ensuring personal and Company compliance with all Federal, State, local and Company regulations, policies, and procedures.
Performs other duties assigned as needed.
Qualifications
A BS degree in relevant discipline and minimum five years of related engineering experience; or MS and minimum three years of related engineering experience is required. Industrial Engineering Degree is preferred.
Has complex level engineering experience.
Experience in the medical device industry would be an asset. Microsoft Office proficiency is required. AutoCAD or SolidWorks proficiency is required. Experience with mechanical and electrical assembly is required. Six sigma and process excellence tools/methodologies experience required.
Must possess more than a basic understanding of engineering theoretical fundamentals and experimental techniques. Individuals at this level should be developing skills related to conflicting design requirements, unsuitability of conventional materials and difficult coordination requirements.
Must have excellent reading, writing and communication skills in the English language. Must have good to excellent organizational skills. Must be able to successfully complete company/department training courses in manufacturing techniques. Must be able to work with a minimum of supervision.
Weekend and overtime work may be required
The employee is required to wear special garments when working in a clean room environment
Position required to work with a variety of manufacturing equipment
While performing the duties of this job, the employee may work near moving parts and may be exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and risk of electrical shock.
The noise level may be loud.
This position is located in Irwinedale, CA and required negligible travel.
