The Associate Medical Director Oncology will assist in the development and conduct of a variety of Medical Affairs initiatives. These include: Provision of strategic support as an Oncologist to multiple internal groups within JBI (Marketing, Sales Training, Research & Development, Business Development, Medical Communications, Medical Writing, Global Medical Safety, and the Clinical Science Liaison Team); Responsibility for the development and execution of Medical Affairs sponsored and supported clinical programs for company products in the oncology therapeutic area (i.e. study design, protocol development, execution, and supervision of Medical Affairs clinical studies of all types) and providing peer-to-peer responses to unsolicited medical information queries from practicing Oncologists and other health care providers where a specialist physician response is necessary. The individual in this position will be responsible for portfolio compounds such as Procrit, Doxil, Imbruvica, Sylvant and Zytiga in these matters, as well as products under development.
This individual will play an important role in the development and review of scientific publications, investigation of safety issues and examination and assessment of licensing and acquisition opportunities. This position is responsible for working closely with the Regulatory Affairs, Pharmacovigilance and the Marketing and Sales Groups.
Key responsibilities for the Associate Director position include: Fully integrate with the Medical Affairs Medical Group and coordinate efforts within Medical Affairs to address medical and scientific issues to insure the appropriate use of all Janssen Biotech marketed products for oncologic disease; Provide clinical analysis and promulgate scientific and clinical support for appropriate use of Janssen Biotech products for oncology; Support the development and execution of Phase IIIb and IV clinical trials, and assessment of Investigator Initiated Clinical Research applications; Support the oncology business in the development of compliant promotional materials and the training of product representatives; Collaborate with R&D teams in the evaluation of new molecules for the treatment of oncologic disease; Maintain relationship with external investigators and opinion leaders through participation in Advisory Boards, national and international society meetings, and other venues; Support the development of scholarly publications arising from Janssen Biotech studies; Support the mission of Medical Affairs in developing product monographs and responding to unsolicited written and verbal product inquiries and surveillance of product safety; and Assume other duties and responsibilities within the group as requested by its leadership.
Qualifications
This position requires an MD with training in Oncology/Hematology. Board certification/eligibility in Internal Medicine and Oncology or Hematology is required. Clinical trial experience (ie. trial design, protocol writing, etc.) is highly preferred. Experience in pharmaceutical trial design and conduct (Phases II-IV) within the pharmaceutical industry, CRO or academia is highly preferred. Excellent written, oral and presentation skills are required. Strong organizational skills are a must. A demonstrated ability to work in a matrix type environment with interaction with cross-functional teams is preferred. This position requires up to 25% annual travel (domestic and international).
