Originally established in 1995 as Inverness Medical Ltd, in 2001 we became part of LifeScan, Inc. and Johnson & Johnson, Our main product range includes the popular OneTouch® brand of blood glucose monitoring systems, which is available globally. We've also developed diabetes management software, control solutions and lancing devices and, in addition, we design and manufacture the specialist test strips that work with many of the meters in the OneTouch® brand line. We are looking for a Engineering Intern, someone who is studying towards an appropriate degree and wants the opportunity of a years industrial placement. The successful candidate will join us this summer.
The role of the Engineering Intern is to provide continuous improvement activities and "Corrective and Preventive Action" activities using materials knowledge, statistical techniques, and Six Sigma and design experimentation for process and equipment to achieve targets and cost savings. Provide technical support to other engineering staff. Will be responsible for ensuring that equipment and process safety ensuring JNJ standards are met or exceeded at all times.
The successful candidate will have the opportunity to:
Support the technical Leads for manufacturing, continuous improvement and "CAPA" projects on manufacturing equipment
Projects:
- Utilising Process Excellence and Lean Manufacturing tools
- Demonstrating decision-making capability, logical troubleshooting and problem solving skills
- Provide strategic view on how Operations Engineering can best develop and implement materials to enable world class manufacturing
- Establish/Maintain/Analyse Engineering/Process metrics
- Provide technical input to ongoing improvements - Analyse product failure data and laboratory test results in order to determine root causes of problems and develop solutions.
- Provide technical consultation/direction to manufacturing when required
- Effective communication to all project stakeholders
Ensure good relationships are maintained with equipment suppliers and service providers:
- Develop partnerships/relationships with external sources
- Materials suppliers
- Professional bodies
- Consultancies
Support new product and/or process introduction into manufacturing:
- Support validation programs
- Execute change control
- Drive and manage change
- Ensure:
- Design for manufacture
- Maintainability
Qualifications
Required Criteria:
- studying towards an Engineering /Science degree
- Knowledge of Chemistry / Science/ Engineering
- Project Management
- Excellent troubleshooting and problem solving skills
