Description
The Epidemiologist in China will work under the supervision of the senior members of Epidemiology Asia Pacific team, the research leadership of the local Chinese company, and more senior members of the global Epidemiology department to provide Epidemiology support to projects in multiple therapeutic areas in China. The Epidemiologist will be expected to keep up to date with the CFDA and other government requirements and regulations in China regarding applications of electronic, patient-level databases and other emerging epidemiologic research tools and should remain current with trends in the relevant scientific approach of observational research, technology, data, data privacy, and methods.
The primary responsibilities will be:
•To identify and evaluate existing external electronic, patient-level databases in China; to determine the extent, linkage, and quality of the databases for observational research
•To explore and analyze these external electronic databases to evaluate disease natural history, clinical and surrogate endpoints, and medication and device safety/benefit questions, and to improve the design and conduct of clinical research
•To provide epidemiology support to the Johnson & Johnson Chinese cross-sector companies regarding observational research and data generation strategies ( surveys, registries, database interrogations etc..) in the specific therapeutic areas
•To build protocols and provide methodological support for data generation activities and plans linked to epidemiological/Registry questions
•To establish access and collaboration with ongoing population-based studies, including surveys, disease registries, and other epidemiologic studies relevant to therapeutic areas of interest
•To conduct a landscape analysis of potential collaborators, including local academics, government officials, and vendors
•To provide data support for marketing strategy prioritized on a case-by-case basis
•To plan and organize targeted and collaborative education and training programs and provide training/educational support and research collaborations in Epidemiology
Qualifications
Required:
Graduate degree in epidemiology or a closely related field, or MD with training in Epidemiology or a closely related field; familiar with the healthcare system in China;
minimum 3 years of hands-on experience in Epidemiology research;
a sophisticated understanding and the ability to interpret quantitative methods;
experience working with large administrative or medical records databases and prospective observational studies;
working knowledge of statistical software such as SAS, R, or SPlus is required;
experience with writing study proposals and/or proposal requests or background epidemiologic material on specific diseases, conditions, or experience working with health authorities, academics, and healthcare professionals;
fluent in Chinese and English (Reading, writing, and speaking);
Preferred:
Pharmaceutical or Medical Device and Diagnostics industry experience; phase III/IV experience.
