Ethicon, Inc., a member of the Johnson & Johnson Family of Companies is currently recruiting for an Environmental, Health and Safety Specialist, located in San Angelo, TX.
The Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) Specialist will serve as the EHS technical expert for all EHS programs with a strong focus on safety programs including risk assessments, machine safety, industrial hygiene, ergonomics, machine guarding, and Lockout/Tagout (LO/TO). Under the direction of the EHS Manager, this individual will support all aspects of the Ethicon - San Angelo Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) Management System.
The EHS Specialist will identify and assess safety risks to maintain a safe work environment. Critical safety programs include: machine safety, industrial hygiene, ergonomics, machine guarding, and Lockout/Tagout (LO/TO). This individual will be expected to technically assess risks and use advanced knowledge of EHS principals and practices to develop and implement corrective and preventive actions for all identified safety risks. Coordinate and conduct all required industrial hygiene (noise and chemical) monitoring; perform ergonomic risk assessments; conduct machine safety risk assessments; and develop job safety analysis for automated and manual job functions. Perform routine EHS assessments; utilize the Johnson & Johnson Management Awareness and Action Review System (MAARS) and audits to identify program specific deficiencies and areas of risk. Collaborate with site management to implement corrective measures. Lead incident investigations for all reported injuries and near misses. Evaluate facilities compliance with federal, state, local EHS regulations and Johnson & Johnson Corporate EHS Standards. Develop and establish Operational Procedures to ensure compliance with regulatory and corporate standards. Track and report key performance indicators and metrics. Evaluate, plan and implement EHS training and awareness programs. Develop and implement training packages for on-line and/or classroom training. Work closely with and establish partnerships with Ethicon Operations and local Occupational Health Professionals to ensure the related programs and practices are implemented at the location. Assist in coordination and serve as an active member on the site(s) Emergency Response Team(s). Establish training programs and drills.
The EHS Specialist will evaluate, plan and implement EHS programs; manage projects requiring advanced knowledge of EHS principles, practices and regulatory requirements including identification of potential risk, analysis of the level of risk, and implementation of appropriate control measures. Document results accordingly and present to appropriate site personnel and management. Monitor and evaluate new regulations to determine impact on operating location. Prioritize work load and site(s) needs to ensure the appropriate support is being maintained to address compliance, training needs, ISO14001 standards, and Johnson & Johnson Worldwide EHS standards. Poor decision making may result in site non-compliance with regulatory and Johnson & Johnson requirements, liability, and potentially negative media attention, and possible delays in production.
Qualifications
A minimum of a Bachelor's degree in Occupational Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering or a related discipline is required. Advanced degree preferred. A minimum of 3 years of experience in Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) is required. Experience working in a manufacturing environment is preferred. Knowledge of Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) regulations required. Knowledge of United States Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA), Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) and Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations preferred. Knowledge of impacts of industrial operations on employees through ergonomic principles is preferred. Experience in assessing industrial hygiene risks preferred. Experience conducting industrial hygiene monitoring is preferred. Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) preferred. Knowledge of machine and electrical safety, including machine guarding and Lock-Out/Tag-Out (LO/TO) programs, preferred. Knowledge of OSHA Process Safety Management programs preferred. Knowledge of EHS management systems, including OHSAS 18001 and ISO 14001, preferred. EHS auditing experience is preferred. Knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) is required. Must have excellent oral and written communication skills. The ability to collaborate with all levels of management in a cross-functional team environment is required. The ability to be exposed to potential work hazards such as elevated surfaces, platforms, high energy sources, chemical substances, infectious agents and noise extremes is required. The ability to sit, stand and walk for extended periods and perform repetitive tasks such as lifting, carrying, bending, reaching, pulling, pushing is required. The ability to work off-shift hours, including weekends, as needed by business and for site related emergencies, is required. This position will require up to 10% travel.
