Tool Maker III / Global Development Center - 2nd Shift

DePuy Synthes Joint Reconstruction is the Joint Reconstruction business offering orthopaedic devices, solutions and supplies for hip, knee and extremity reconstruction, in addition to cement and operating room products.

The essential duties and responsibilities of this role would include conceptualizing, planning and fabricating/modifying a wide variety of tooling, instruments, gauges and other machined components to very close tolerances from blueprints, sketches or verbal instructions. This individual would be expected to set up and operate all tool room equipment, including programming and operation of CNC machining centers, lathes and wire EDM’s, manual mills and lathes, and demonstrate consistent optimum results.

The role also requires the utilization all required tool room ancillary equipment such as sine bars, rotary tables, index fixtures, and inspection tools. The expectation for the employee would be to fabricate all tools, fixtures from blue prints, sketches or verbal instructions with tool room equipment. Test runs would need to be performed on tooling and any necessary alterations made during the course of daily work.

Qualifications


A minimum of a technical High School degree or equivalent is required. A minimum of four years of direct as a Toolmaker is required. A minimum of four years of experience programming and operating manual machinery required for tool making (examples include Bridgeports, Lathes, Grinders, as well as all other related manual machines, hand tools, welding and heat treat operations). A minimum of four years of experience in programming and operating CNC equipment (examples include Milling Machines, Lathes, Wire EDM, Sinker EDM, as well as other CNC equipment). Experience utilizing CAM software in the fabrication of tools, fixtures and gages is required. The ability to utilize Unigraphics CAD software is highly desirable.

This position requires utilization of CAD software to design fixtures, complex tooling, machine assemblies, and automation assemblies, in support of advanced manufacturing and CAM software to program CNC equipment. It requires performing heat treatment of metals, with welding, soldering and brazing as desirable. Experience required in assembling tooling and instruments after completion of machine and hand operations, and the expectation is working closely with process engineers to assure process capability. Role requires selecting appropriate engineering materials to assure safety and effectiveness of all mechanical components designed and fabricated. Person needs to understand and able to apply regulatory (QSR, ISO, GMP) requirements in everyday activities and maintain safety and quality compliance, and work effectively in a team environment. Critical thinking in solving problems will be necessary on a daily basis.

The schedule for this position is second shift and needs to be consistently around 2:30 PM to 11:00 PM with a thirty-minute meal break. The position requires the ability to speak and write effectively in English. It requires the ability to stand for 75% of the eight-hour shift, as well as the ability to lift up to 25 pounds unassisted.
