DePuy Synthes Joint Reconstruction is the Joint Reconstruction business offering orthopaedic devices, solutions and supplies for hip, knee and extremity reconstruction, in addition to cement and operating room products.
The Tool Maker IV, Advanced Technology conceptualizes, fabricates, and/or alters a wide variety of tooling, machines, and equipment from blueprints, sketches or verbal instructions. They plan, construct, design, and/or alter a variety of machine tools, jigs, fixtures, dies, molds, gauges, etc. from blueprints, sketches or verbal instructions. They set up and operate all tool room equipment, including programming and operation of CNC equipment and demonstrates consistent optimum results. This person will utilize all required tool room ancillary equipment such as sine bars, rotary tables, index fixtures, attachments and inspection tools. They will fabricates all tools, fixtures, gauges and other machined components to very close tolerances from blue prints, sketches or verbal instructions with tool room equipment.
This person will perform test runs on tooling and makes any necessary alterations. They will utilize CAD/CAM software to design fixtures, complex tooling, machine assemblies, and automation assemblies, in support of advanced manufacturing. Performs heat treatment of metals welds, solder and brazes. Assembles tooling after completion of machine and hand operations, and works closely with process engineers to assure process capability. Select s appropriate engineering materials to assure safety and effectiveness of all mechanical components designed and fabricated. Understands and is able to apply regulatory (QSR, ISO, GMP) requirements in everyday activities. Maintains quality compliance. Fosters a team atmosphere across the franchises. Applies critical thinking in solving complex engineering problems. Provides training to other Toolmakers and machinists with respect to appropriate fabrication methods. Work with R&D Engineers, Surgeons or internal customers to develop new instrument designs or concepts to solve problems they may be having with current instruments or instruments in development. Actively provides DFM feedback and Design Enhancement input.
Qualifications
A minimum of a technical high school degree, GED, or equivalent is required. A minimum of 6 years of experience as a Toolmaker is required. Also required is a minimum of 6 years of experience programming and operating all manual machines required for tool making, including Bridgeport’s, Lathes, Grinders, as well as all other related manual machines and hand tools. A minimum of 6 years of experience is required in programming and operating CNC equipment, including Milling Machines, Lathes, Wire EDM, Sinker EDM, as well as other CNC equipment. Our ideal candidate will have a minimum of 5 years experience with CAD/CAM software, and demonstrated ability to design complex tooling, machine assemblies, and mechanical assemblies.
The Tool Maker IV, Advanced Technology will manufacture of prototype orthopedic instruments and must be capable of holding tight tolerances on complex geometry. They will set up and operate all tool room equipment, including programming and operation of CNC equipment.
They will also utilize CAD/CAM software to design and fabricate any necessary tooling or fixturing that is required. They will be familiar with GD&T methodology on engineering drawings. Ideally, this person will also have Unigraphics and Mastercam software experience.
