- The Senior Scientist Protein Lab will be a member of the Neuroscience Biomarkers team, and will be responsible for conducting biochemical biomarker research in collaboration with internal and external partners.
- S/he will serve as expert for biochemical biomarker assays within the Beerse Neuroscience Discovery laboratory.
- S/he will be the point person for integrating the Beerse Discovery and Experimental Medicine activities for Alzheimer’s disease with the La Jolla, CA based biomarker research.
- In addition, this individual will perform protein research and assay development for biomarker assay discovery, optimization and validation in the field of Alzheimer’s Disease.
- The scientific focus for the position consists of biochemical biomarker development based on tissue and fluid samples for AD disease diagnosis and stratification, measurement of target engagement, disease progression and safety, with an initial focus on beta amyloid and tau biology.
- The operational responsibilities for the position consist of translating, in close collaboration with the La Jolla biomarker team, prototype Discovery assays to validated biomarkers assays for use in clinical trials.
- S/he will investigate characteristics of biomarker assays and create and perform validation protocols.
- S/he will collaborate with partners in order to identify potentially new assay platforms and detection strategies.
- The candidate will interact with contacts inside the company consisting of Neuroscience Alzheimer's Disease Discovery Scientists, Discovery Sciences, Experimental Medicine, purchasing, contracting, and commercial contacts.
- The candidate will be interacting with external contacts consisting of Academic Key Opinion Leaders, Non-competitive alliance partners, CROs with specialized instrument capabilities and CRO partners for assay execution, government agencies.
- The Senior Scientist Protein Lab will report into the Neuroscience biomarker team based in La Jolla, CA., but will be based in Beerse, Belgium.
Qualifications
- A minimum of a Ph.D. or equivalent in a biological/chemistry field is required.
- A minimum of 3+ years of post-doctoral experience using biochemical techniques in the study of Alzheimer’s biology is required.
- A minimum of 3 years of laboratory experience with assay development towards preclinical and clinical validation is required.
- Demonstrated ability to apply assays to drug discovery, biomarker translation and clinical development is highly preferred.
- The successful candidate should have excellent collaborative skills for working in multi-discipline teams.
- The successful candidate must have excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Proficiency with using computer software for instrument control and data analysis is highly preferred.
- Experience with protein separation using centrifugation, HPLC, standard chromatography and affinity techniques is required.
- Experience using immunoreagents for protein enrichment and measurement is required.
- The position is located in Beerse, Belgium and may require < 10% travel.
