Ethicon, a member of Johnson & Johnson's Family of Companies, is currently recruiting for a Staff Scientist R&D Sterilization Technology, to be located in Somerville, New Jersey with 30% domestic and international travel.
The Ethicon business offers a broad range of products, platforms and technologies-including sutures, surgical staplers, clip appliers, trocars and synthetic mesh devices-that are used in a wide variety of minimally invasive and open surgical procedures. The Staff Scientist, R&D is a member of the Sterilization, Science and Technology (SS&T) team and is primarily responsible for leading the design and validation of terminal sterilization processes for new products manufactured globally both in-house and by external manufacturers. This individual provides technical leadership in performing sterilization validations, developing sterilization strategies and associated product development documentation in collaboration with cross-functional project teams, guiding experimental design, developing innovative test methods for characterization of medical devices and biomaterials, developing test protocols, analyzing data and generating reports, identifying and reducing risks with respect to new product development, and assuring activities comply with relevant regulatory requirements and company policies/procedures.
Qualifications
A BA/BS in life science, engineering, or related scientific/technical discipline and a minimum of 10 years of related job experience required. In-depth knowledge in terminal sterilization technologies including radiation and ethylene oxide gas as applied to medical devices and diagnostic products is required. Knowledge in sterilization processes using moist heat and re-sterilizable devices is desired. Experience leading multi-functional project teams for the design and validation of sterilization processes for medical products is required. Knowledge in relevant regulations, standards and compendial methods for sterilization and sterility assurance with demonstrated leadership in quality and compliance is required. Experience in conducting audits of sterilization service providers and ancillary services impacting sterilization desired.
