Description

Responsible for direction of capital project related engineering and design activities in alignment with J&J WWE &TO business objectives and Project Delivery Practices. This includes defining, identifying and securing appropriate tools, internal and external technical resources and coordinating the efforts of technical team members and third-party design firms or consultants in order to deliver projects according to plan. Responsible for leading the regional Worldwide Engineering and Design group, setting regional operational strategies, establishing business focused goals and objectives, continued talent development of the workforce and alignment with boht internal and external business partners to enable execution of regional engineering and design activities.

General Requirements

• Requires proficiency in project/design management, including obtaining agreement on project definitions and priorities, and ensuring that resources, capabilities and processes are in place to deliver the design efficiently and effectively.

• Requires proficiency working with Pharmaceutical, Consumer Products or Medical Device Manufacturing process equipment and systems.

• Requires experience working within a multinational Engineering firm and strong experience managing the design effort on large projects

• Ensures that programs stay on plan by resolving resource conflicts and removing obstacles, which may involve negotiations at a senior level. • Establish plans for talent development, diversification, and professional development for group.

• Ensures that proper risk management analysis and plans are in place for all projects and technology implementation.

• Ensure metrics for engineering performance are met and plans are in place to provide continuous improvement.

• Ensure collaboration of engineering and design group across other functional areas, establish effective working relationships with regional partners.

• Ensure application of efficient work practices for group processes. Ensure continued improvement and update of these practices with lessons learned.

• Provide regional guidance on technology and engineering issues to all functional areas.

• Develop yearly business plans and objectives that support the overall J&J WWE&TO goals.

• Advises and correlates short and long term tactical engineering plans and programs based on strategic departmental plans.

Job Specific Requirements

• Lead the front end design process including all aspects of design (Arch, Mech, Elec, Process, Automation, etc.).

• Prepare Request for Proposal (RFP) for Architect/Engineer (A/E) services and Lead A/E interviews/selection and on-boarding process

• Work with the Project Dir./Project Mgr. to manage the performance (cost, schedule, quality) of A/E firm and define correction action plans if necessary

• Assure that Project Delivery Process (PDP) process is followed and assure use of Value Improving Practices (VIPs)

• Assure the appropriate J&J guidelines, and regulatory requirements (cGXP, EHS, …) are incorporated to deliver compliant and efficient project designs

• Coordinate/lead key design reviews with SMEs including other corporate or affiliate resources such as EHS, Risk Management, WW Security, etc.

• Assure that the J&J Standard Design Platforms are deployed on all projects. Setup project specific training for internal and external SMEs.

• Assure that projects meet the J&J Sustainability policy and drive the certification process.

• Lead effort to resolve key design conflicts in construction and commissioning phase with appropriate SMEs

• Lead the final close-out with the A/E firm. Job and (sub)-department specific duties & responsibilities

•Work with Global E&D and Regional PM leadership to implement regional resource support and charge out model for projects

•Analyze current work processes and Design firm partners and make recommendations for improvement.

Provides consultation to colleagues and mgmt. Strong track record of developing others.

Documented success achieving company goals.

Strong record of global collaboration ensuring completion of significant projects and people development

Creates innovative technical and business solutions to realize company objectives aligned with business plan Tracks technology/industry trends.
