The Biomarker Signatures Director will be a member of the Neuroscience Biomarkers team, and will be responsible for assessing, prioritizing and validating new biomarker technologies related to the Mood Disorder and Alzheimer’s Disease areas.

The position will focus on identifying and validating biomarker panels, composite biomarkers, “omics” - phenotype associations, neuro-functional measurements aimed at diagnosis & staging, stratification, response and relapse prediction and measurement.

The Biomarkers Signatures Director will prioritize projects based on disease area needs, scientific soundness, and likelihood of timely implementation S/he will provide input and results to Mood and AD biomarker experts in therapeutic discovery, clinical translation and clinical development. S/he will evaluate and select internal and external collaborators/partners/CROs, to evaluate and validate biomarker signatures for mood disorders and AD. S/he will interface internally with Project and Bioinformatics Scientists and Laboratory Personnel, and interact outside of the immediate group with Neuroscience Discovery Scientists, Clinical Scientists, RA/QA, Safety, Finance, Purchasing, and Contracting. S/he will interface externally with Life science and instrument vendors, academic researchers, collaborators, and KOL’s. S/he will manage time lines, milestone deliveries and budget compliance.

The Biomarkers Signatures Director will provide results-oriented management of biomarker signature programs with the goal of identifying and validating biomarker signatures in connection with discovery projects, aimed toward clinical translation.

Qualifications


The successful candidate will have a Ph.D. degree in pharmacology/biology with post-doctoral experience. A minimum of 6-12 years of relevant experience is required. Experience with initiating/maintaining external collaborations is required. The successful candidate will have on-the-job experience with biomarker signatures, establishing & validating their link to phenotypes, and application in drug discovery, translation and clinical development in NS. Knowledge of Good Clinical Practices and experience with regulatory requirements for the use of biomarkers in clinical development is required. Demonstrated competence for team leadership and/or people management is required. Strong communication skills are required. Strong collaboration and influencing skills are required. The position is located in La Jolla, CA and may require <20% travel.
