The Associate Project Engineer will plan, conduct and direct assigned small, well defined projects from start to completion. Assist more senior project engineers/managers with engineering and/or project management support. Manage site project and resource portfolios in the corporate Project Portfolio Management system. Assist with tracking and basic execution of department and other project managers’ administrative backlog (COC closure, CAPA closure, tracking department metrics, etc.).
The Associate Project Engineer will engage in frequent one-on-one communication with site project engineers/managers and department management regarding current status of all active and pending projects. Update site project and resource portfolios in the corporate Project Portfolio Management system based on current status and projections for active and pending projects. The individual will work with department management, maintenance department management and site management to develop and maintain a Capital Master Plan. The Associate will be responsible for obtaining bids, writing Capital Appropriation Requests and controlling project costs and expenses to agreed upon budgets. Monitor and drive priorities and timelines for assigned projects. Interact and coordinate with production and maintenance personnel, process engineers, and quality personnel to accomplish assigned projects with minimal interference with other functions. The Associate will troubleshoot and organize solutions for processing and equipment problems. Gather “voice of the customer” input, focusing on root cause of issues and identifying the most robust, least complex solution for implementation. Effectively communicate project and work status with coworkers and supervisor.
The Associate Project Engineer will provide technical training to production and maintenance personnel on new equipment or modifications to existing equipment that are part of assigned projects. The individual will carry out duties in compliance with all state and federal regulations and guidelines including FDA, EPA, OSHA and DEA. Comply with all company and site policies and procedures. The Associate will assume responsibility for the environmental effects of work performed and for the identification and recording of environmental problems as they arise. Diligently organize files and records for historical purposes. Ensure correct calculations of ad-hoc estimates of design costs including equipment installation, labor, materials, preparation and other related project expenses. Generate required Control Of Change (COC) and Corrective Action & Preventive Action (CAPA) documentation for project driven changes. Generate required document updates (user requirements, functional specifications, operating procedures, etc.) for project driven changes. The individual will make a positive contribution as demonstrated by making suggestions for improvement, providing overtime and shift coverage as needed, and learning new skills, procedures and processes. Remain current in skills and industry trends. Successfully complete regulatory and job training requirements. Participate on investigative teams and site group initiatives (e.g. process hazard analysis, pre-start up safety reviews, etc.). The individual will be available for other duties as required.
Qualifications
A minimum of a Bachelor's degree (B.S.) from an accredited college or university attained no more than 12 months prior to start date is required. Chemical, Mechanical, Electrical or related Engineering major is required. The ability to qualify for respiratory protective equipment use is required.
Candidate must be willing and able to work in Athens, GA. The candidate is required to be able to travel, frequently, to the job site of all the employee’s managed projects. Candidate must be legally authorized to work in the United States and not require future sponsorship for employment visa status (e.g. H1-B status) now or in the future.
