The Environment, Health, Safety and Sustainability (EHS&S&S) Manager will manage and lead the safety and environmental function, developing and maintaining robust EHS&S programs and management systems, ensuring that the sites manufacturing and other facilities are in compliance with local EHS&S regulations as well as corporate EHS&S Standards.

The EHS&S Manager will integrate EHS&S into the day to day operations of the business. He/she serves as the SME in compliance & culture, technical support, collaboration, strategy & the management of EHS&S.

The EHS&S Manager is accountable for ensuring the site meets all of its regulatory requirements & obligations and shares responsibility with Site GM for EHS&S performance at the site. This requires the development of a flexible, collaborative, multi-skilled team environment. The EHS&S Manager will be an active member within the site Leadership Team (LT) with dotted line reporting to the site GM and direct line reporting to Regional EHS&S Director. The EHS&S Manager will understand and model the corporate leadership principles and behaviors to drive a culture of continuous improvement within a high performance organisation.

Primary activities/responsibilities:

• Shared responsibility with site General Manager for EHS&S performance at the site.

• Is responsible for the management, development, implementation and continual improvement of the site EHS&S Management System on site, and providing feedback to site LT on potential improvements. Partner with local management to develop and implement a site management action plans to address EHS&S program deficiencies and ensure EHS&S regulatory compliance.

• Develops EHS&S objectives for the site - auditing, analyzing, documenting, and reporting on their implementation and effectiveness to management via dashboards & reports. Ensures timely completion of appropriate metrics and KPIs as required by corporate and site management.

• Ensures that site systems are aligned to maintain 100% compliance with all Irish and EU Safety Regulations including Environmental permits, ISO certifications and corporate EHS&S standards (specifically but not limited to occupational safety, ergonomics, industrial hygiene, machine safety, ATEx, emergency management, water, waste and contractor management).

• Ensures ongoing evaluation of changes in Safety and Environmental Regulatory requirements. Consults with site management on relevant environmental, health and safety regulations identifying the impacts of changes to regulations on key business objectives.

• Ensures that any site safety and/or environmental incidents and deviations are thoroughly investigated, reported, and that remedial and corrective actions taken as appropriate to ensure minimal environmental impact and prevent recurrence.

• Advises site management on the safe and environmental sound operation of all processes, plant and equipment. Provides technical safety and environmental support to the site engineering, facilities and other functional areas during routine and non routine operations and for introduction of and modifications to new processes and equipment. Driving EHS&S by design and participating in pre-start up EHS&S reviews and equipment walk-downs to identify relevant EHS&S items to assure compliance and prevent incidents.

• Support and facilitate site EHS&S committees/teams to ensure implementation of the EHS&S program.

• Collaborate with other functions to manage EHS&S aspects of external manufacturers, suppliers and contractor programs.

• Act as primary site contact with all external Regulatory Agencies & Auditors (Health & Safety Authority, Cork County Council, Corporate EHS&S Auditors and Certification Agencies etc) ensuring a good and effective working relationship is maintained at all times between the Company and the Agencies.

• Prepares the operating EHS&S budget, monitors performance against budget targets and manages performance within profit plan.

• Manage site EHS&S professionals, set and monitor goals/objectives/assignments, provide adequate coaching/counseling, develop and monitor employee development plans, and provide recommendations as part of the succession planning, appraisal, and salary planning process.

• Develops and implements site wide EHS&S training programmes in support of corporate and site EHS&S programmes and in compliance with regulatory requirements. Responsible for educating management and workforce regarding pertinent Regulatory and Corporate EHS&S standards.

• Facilitate the development of a culture on-site of self-sufficiency from an EHS&S perspective. Challenge current systems and practices and proactively seek opportunities for continual improvement, leaner and innovative EHS&S practices.

Qualifications


Qualifications & Experience

10 years+ experience in a similar leadership/management role, in a GMP/FDA manufacturing environment preferably pharmaceutical, biotech or medical device. Technical experience in diverse EHS&S areas including but not limited to machine safety, IH and chemical and biological safety, new product and process introductions, environmental licensing is highly desirable. Demonstrated project management skills are required and individual must have technical/working knowledge of local regulations.

Competencies/Skills and Abilities

• Degree in Science/ Engineering or related discipline ideally relevant post graduate qualification.

• Strong technical skills in occupational safety disciplines such as machines safety and ergonomics.

• Excellent interpersonal, communication (written & verbal), problem-solving, influence, planning, organizing, and time management skills. Superior team player.

• Leadership and stakeholder management of multiple decision makers, corporate colleagues, cross-functional team.

• Good interpersonal skills and classroom instructor skills are required.

• Proven track record of delivering high performance.

• Interfacing – associates & regulatory inspectors & auditors

• Organizational skills – generate all required reports & record keeping systems

• Experience is required in identifying, evaluating and controlling EHS&S risks in the workplace.

• Ability to quickly interpret complex regulatory issues and provide recommended course of action.

Computer Skills:

• Proficient in MS Office software programs including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

• Internet, intranet and database tools (internal and external) as needed to support the EHS&S function.
