Department Description

Analytical Sciences & Centers of Excellences (ASCOES) and the Clinical Release and Stability (CRS) group are both departments within Pharmaceutical Development and Manufacturing Sciences – Analytical Development (PDMS-AD). The departments are among others responsible for:

• CRS: Execution of method development and qualification/validation of microbiology methods (Bio burden, Endotoxin, Sterility, …)

• CRS: Execution of stability and release analysis, including microbiological analysis

• ASCOES: Analytical centers of excellence in microbiological sciences:

• Expert team responsible for supporting the entire product portfolio (Small Molecules and Large Molecules) end-to end (R&D as well as commercial) regarding microbiological aspects

• Microbiological method transfers

• Responsible for microbial specification setting

• Close collaboration with the CRS Micro laboratory for steering method development, validation and transfer activities and supporting microbiological tests

• Development and implementation of rapid microbiology technology platforms for Large and Small Molecules

In the CRS group in collaboration with ASCOES – Beerse (Belgium) –, there is currently a full-time opening for a (m/f)

Scientist

Job description

• Be the bridge between the microbiology lab in the CRS group and the microbiological sciences group of ASCOES. This includes:

o Development and qualification/validation of microbiology methods as well as supporting stability and release analysis for microbiology. This as part of a learning trajectory.

o Write qualification/validation protocols/reports and microbiological impact assessments.

o Provide scientific guidance/coaching to a team of 5-6 lab analysts. Design, lead and perform scientific experiments in the field of microbiology

o Screening and supporting introduction of rapid microbiological technologies if required.

o Support scientifically one or more Small Molecule projects.

• After a period of 1 year, the selected candidate will transition to the ASCOES center of excellence for microbiological sciences. This includes:

o Support scientifically Small Molecule and Large Molecule projects from early to late development phase

o Provide on demand expertise and solutions for investigations on commercial products

o Write scientific reports to support regulatory filings

o Initiate and follow up collaboration with external partners and universities for any microbiology related topics

o Stay up to date with the scientific literature in the microbiology field.

• Overall we expect:

o Apply state-of–the art scientific knowledge to ensure high quality of the delivered results

o Work in a multidisciplinary team of researchers and show willingness to learn/explore new techniques

o Commitment to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, GMP and safety.

Qualifications


Education & experience
• You hold a PhD degree in Bioscience Engineering or Pharmaceutical sciences.
• Good knowledge of microbiological aspects in (bio) pharmaceutical processes and products, both sterile and non-sterile are an asset.
• Knowledge of GMP is an advantage
• Knowledge in Virology (AVA/Mycoplasma) is considered as a benefit.
