Ethicon, Inc. develops and markets products for surgery, wound management and advanced wound care treatment. Products are marketed through four divisions: Ethicon Products for precise wound closure and tissue repair; Cardiovations for minimally invasive cardiac procedures; Ethicon Women's Health & Urology for minimally invasive women's health procedures; and Johnson & Johnson Wound Management for hemostasis and advanced wound care.
The Area Mechanic - 3rd Class - C or D Shift will perform mechanical support to maintain manufacturing operations. This individual will work under general supervision and follow prescribed procedures, specifically following all safety procedures that are involved with the highly critical operation. Work would include prescheduled and emergency maintenance, routing adjustments and process improvements projects. Assist other experts, including contractors, on maintenance and project work within electrical and mechanical maintenance areas. Direct the work of other craft associates working with this process. Gain knowledge, through training, of the process equipment, including building utilities and related equipment such as controllers and material handling systems. Be an interactive member of the team and be able to work well with others and contribute workable recommendations for process improvements and solutions to process problems.
The Area Mechanic will operate all portable power tools and hand tools in assigned production area; drills, wrenches, mills, welders, lathe, grinders and meters to troubleshoot and repair production equipment. Perform emergency repair, routine and scheduled maintenance overhauls and changeovers on production equipment with limited direction. Utilize electromechanical knowledge to be used in problem diagnosis and solutions. Utilize plumbing skills for repair and installation to include, hard plumbing. Utilize blueprints for the purpose of maintenance and repairs. Work towards effectively managing deadlines in completing breakdown, maintenance and project activities. Make critical decisions under pressure on breakdowns. Attend all required Environmental, Health and Safety training. Effectively diagnose problems and repair equipment in a timely manner with little or no direction. Demonstrate the ability to set up equipment to specifications. Provide directions and training to other lower level mechanics. Make decisions involving judgment as to the criticality of equipment during breakdowns, with the initiative to repair as needed for the process. Perform difficult work when only general to limited instructions are available. Consistently manage a variety of tasks, some being very time consuming while under pressure of the process. Identify creative solutions while conforming to specifications and safety requirements. Perform highly specialized troubleshooting and repair work with little or minimal direction. Work independently towards a general result, with creative new methods.
The Area Mechanic will also perform other work related duties as assigned. Follow current compliance regulations and standards. Ensure safe working conditions and practices within the department. Keep equipment and work area clean and orderly. Perform preventive maintenance and minor adjustments. Work in accordance with ISO 14001 principles and environmental regulatory compliance requirements. Work in accordance with Ethicon environmental policies and procedures. Interface with appropriate manufacturing representatives to ensure manufacturing operations and projects receive effective technical support in alignment with EPS. Work as member of the Manufacturing Equipment Excellence (ME2) team to achieve specific ME2 goals. Attend and successfully complete required training as well as keeping abreast of changes in process control methods and practices including, installation, maintenance and troubleshooting using proper equipment. This position pays $17.83/hour and is under a Collective Bargaining Agreement in a union environment.
Qualifications
A minimum of a High school diploma, G.E.D. or equivalent required. A minimum of 2 years of experience and/or training in the maintenance of machinery to produce or repair parts, tools and/or equipment is required. Experience working in a manufacturing environment is preferred. Experience working in a Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) environment preferred. Mechanical skills required. The ability to operate power tools and hand tools is required. The ability to read and understand blueprints is required. Knowledge of design/drafting with ability to clearly and accurately annotate schematic diagrams is preferred. Knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) preferred. Experience retrieving work orders from Maximo preferred. Must have excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Must be a team player and be able to work with minimal technical supervision. Experience with automated equipment preferred. Experience with pneumatics and hydraulics preferred. Experience working with vacuums, steam, piping, nitrogen and plumbing preferred. Process Excellence experience preferred. Must be willing to obtain Yellow Belt training/certification. Must be a certified forklift operator or be willing to become certified. Must be willing to be trained on the usage of a Respirator. Must be able to work rotating night shifts (C or D Shift) (6:00 pm - 6:30 am), which will include alternating weekends. The ability to work occasional overtime, weekends and some holidays as needed by business is required. Successful completion of WORKKEYS with scores of (5) or higher on all Ethicon required modules GOLD level is required.
