Within the Isotope Chemistry group in Discovery Sciences, the successful candidate will be responsible for the preparation and analysis of stable isotope, carbon-14 and tritium-labeled pharmaceutical new molecular entities for application in lead optimization and early drug development studies.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to being responsible for planning own work and executing synthesis of Carbon-14 and tritium labeling projects with supervisory direction; Works closely with a small team of scientists involved in the production and analysis of Carbon-14 and tritium labeled compounds; Develops analytical procedures and troubleshoots HPLC, LCMS and NMR analysis of synthesized compounds; Focuses on the synthesis and optimization of Carbon-14 and tritium labeling methodologies as well as implementation of novel approaches to ensure timely delivery of highest quality products; Will interact with DMPK and discovery scientists; If training is required, the candidate must have a demonstrated aptitude for learning new techniques and operating varied pieces of scientific hardware; Participate in radiochemistry and laboratory instrument maintenance and troubleshooting; Maintain and archive laboratory records pertaining to radiosyntheses, supplies receipt and safety monitoring according to corporate policies; Track laboratory inventories and replenish common lab supplies. Interact with external suppliers, sales, and service individuals; Package and ship small quantities to other Janssen sites.

Qualifications


BS or MS degree with at least 10 years industrial experience OR a PhD with experience in synthetic organic chemistry with other relevant experience is required

Radiosynthesis experience and knowledge of radioisotope methodology are preferred; training will be provided

Proven track record of developing synthesis strategies and completing synthesis projects

Experience with micro-scale laboratory techniques are preferred

Can work independently with continuous attention to detail and safety

Must possess strong analytical skill sets

Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Knowledgeable of HPLC chromatography with experience in methods development are preferred

Working knowledge of mass spectrometry and NMR spectroscopy is required

Can interact effectively with internal and external scientists

Hands-on experience in synthetic chemistry and conducting reactions is required

Ability to present scientific data clearly and succinct manner to other scientists
