Animas Corporation, a member of Johnson & Johnson's Family of Companies, is recruiting for a Staff Algorithm Scientist, Artificial Pancreas, located in Wayne, PA.
Animas Corporation is a global company within the Johnson & Johnson family of companies. Animas is an innovator in insulin delivery, with ground-breaking products such as the OneTouch® Ping™ glucose management system and the VibeTM CGM-enabled insulin pump. Animas is also developing, in partnership with the JDRF, a first-generation automated insulin delivery device (“artificial pancreas”) to help people with type 1 diabetes better control their disease. You can become part of the team responsible for the development of this and subsequent breakthrough technologies, execution of clinical trials demonstrating safety and efficacy, and the submission of this product to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration for its approval.
The successful candidate will be a key contributor to the development of this artificial pancreas medical device. He/she will assist in the planning and execution of research and development projects where the complexity of the technical problem requires advanced knowledge and scientific specialization in the areas of mathematics, computer simulations, physiological and empirical modeling, and control techniques. In particular, the application of these engineering methodologies to the biomedical problem of insulin therapy and (to a lesser degree) diagnostics, in the treatment of diabetes, is the fundamental skill set possessed by the successful candidate.
The successful candidate will understand, critically analyze, and direct the development of insulin-delivery control algorithms using scientific methods, principles, and clinical (i.e., patient) data, and subsequently communicate actionable guidance to the development team. He/she will also assist in the development and execution of research studies that advance the art and treatment of diabetes. Intrinsically, this role involves reviewing technical and patent-related issues; creating intellectual property for the business; formally documenting scientific results by writing abstracts and journal articles; and delivering presentations. Additionally, he/she will learn to create detailed documentation of research and development activities suitable for the premarket approval (PMA) of a Class III medical device developed under design controls.
Qualifications
The successful candidate will have an advanced technical degree with a minimum of four years of experience, or a PhD. In addition, he/she will have a proven aptitude for computer science, mathematics, and biomedical engineering is required. Previous experience optimizing drug delivery control algorithms is preferred. Previous experience with control algorithms is required. Previous experience in systems engineering principles, physiological systems, and control methodologies are also required.
This position is located in Wayne, PA and may require up to 10% of travel domestically and internationally.
