DePuy Synthes Companies of Johnson & Johnson is seeking an Oil Technician located in Horseheads, NY requiring a flexible work schedule in coordination with machine schedules.

The Oil Technician is responsible for operating equipment for the removal and addition of coolants and hydraulic fluids. Uses a refractometer to check coolants and oils for correct contents. Cleans coolant sumps and containers. Cleans vibratory media bowls. Also responsible for operating and maintaining the vibratory dumping equipment, Dumping scrap in the collection container provided and make sure metal chip and scrap containers on the production floor are emptied, as well as the vibratory media carts. Manage storage area that contains chemicals plus hazardous and non-hazardous wastes; Coordinate the disposal of scrap, trash and used oil; plus other hazardous and non-hazardous wastes. Coordinate replacement of solvent and maintenance of parts washers. Insure that all drums, pails, and containers in the oil storage area are properly labeled. Prepare, sign and insure correctness of shipping manifests. Perform clean up duties assigned to the area. Replaces used coolants and oils with fresh liquids in production machinery. Maintains a clean work area.

The Oil Technician tracks and completes preventative maintenance forms for scheduling and documenting coolant changes. Maintains inventories and order related supplies. This position is required to perform responsibilities in the area of managing and/or handling hazardous waste. Responsibilities may include identifying type of waste, containerizing, labeling, shipping, emergency response initiation and/or coordination. Become familiar with wastewater treatment position and act as back up for these technicians as needed. Adhere to all Operating Procedures, Work Instructions and Training Guides pertaining to these positions.

In addition, the Oil Technician checks chip and scrap containers on the production floor, takes full ones to the rear of the plant, dump into the large collection bin and return empties their place on the production floor. Takes cart with used media from main vibratory room to dumping machine and dump contents into the appropriate container. Dumps other used media cart(s) stationed around the plant. This is typically performed at the start and end of the shift. Checks the chemical/waste storage cage to make sure everything is in order. Calls disposal companies and coordinates disposals as needed, as well as coordinates and changes coolants according to this schedule. Checks trash compactor, scrap bin and used oil tanks. Complete PM forms and return them for input into the computer within the allowed time frame. Dump used coolants into the appropriate holding tanks. Draw fresh coolants from dispensing equipment. Ensure that the correct, fresh, coolant, in the correct quantity for a given machine is drawn and installed in the appropriate machine. Operate used oil/water separator system by setting gauges for proper pressure, changing filter bags and flushing system as needed. Track stock on hand, order and store coolants, oils, chemicals and related supplies to maintain inventories of these supplies at reasonable levels without running out. Keep service station tanks containing fresh products full and ready for use. Attend training classes as required, complete facility maintenance work orders when assigned and support other facility maintenance personnel as required. Perform other duties as assigned. Know and follow all laws and policies that apply to one's job, and maintain the highest levels of professionalism, ethics and compliance at all times. Diligently participate in our compliance program-related activities as denoted by your supervisor or our Chief Compliance Officer.

Qualifications


A minimum of a High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent is required. A minimum of 6 months of work experience is required, preferably in a manufacturing/industrial setting. Must have strong communication skills. Basic knowledge of PCs and communication software is desirable. This role requires frequent physical activity including: Walking and remaining on one’s feet for the majority of the shift, frequently lifting 10-20 lbs, occasionally lifting up to 50 lbs at times, frequent pulling, pushing, kneeling, bending, and shifting from the upright position to bending and kneeling down on a daily basis. Coolant changes require working in tight spaces and kneeling for short periods of time; and wearing of Personal Protective Equipment (safety glasses, rubber gloves, apron, and sleeve protectors) for most of the shift is required.

Oil testing equipment knowledge and/or experience with viscometer and refractometer is preferred. Scheduling experience is also preferred but not required. A current and valid driving license is required. While employed, must be willing to attend training on Hazardous Waste Management and pass a test before being qualified to sign shipping manifests (Synthes – USA provides this training).

This position is located in Horseheads, NY and the shift hours may vary depending on machine schedules. It is a requirement that all successful candidates have the availability and willingness to travel to Horseheads, NY on a daily basis for scheduled shifts.
