The Ethicon Surgical Care business offers a broad range of products, platforms and technologies-including sutures, surgical staplers, clip appliers, trocars and synthetic mesh devices-that are used in a wide variety of minimally invasive and open surgical procedures. Specialties include support for treatment of colorectal and thoracic conditions, women's health conditions, hernias, cancer and obesity. The Ethicon Surgical Care business combines products and services of two market leading legacy companies, both with long histories of medical innovation. As an Industrial Design co-op in the R&D department at Ethicon Endo-Surgery, you will have an opportunity for a highly creative, talented and self-motivated Industrial Design/Human Factors co-op to work in our multi-disciplinary team environment. We are looking for a well rounded sophomore, pre-junior, junior or senior who possess exceptional design and presentation skills, is articulate, eager to learn, and interested in the challenge of medical product design.
Students will address all phases of design process including human factors research, product research, concept sketching, product renderings, 3D database development, animation, graphic design & illustration, usability testing, product marketing support, and interactive presentations.
Qualifications
In order to be eligible for a Industrial Co-op position, candidates must be enrolled in an accredited college/institution pursuing a Bachelors or Masters degree in Industrial Design or Human Factors Engineering . Only students in their second year or above will be considered. Portfolio of work must be available for review by hiring manager. Desirable assets include:
Experience using 2d and 3d design software (Alias Studiotools, Solidworks, NX, Photoshop, Illustrator, Indesign, Painter, Poser, Director, Flash). Experience with modeling (SLA, SLS, FDM, 3D printer, CNC, Metal/Wood Shop)
Exceptional design, presentation, and communication skills
Availability for multiple co-op rotations
A minimum GPA of 3.0 is preferred, with demonstrated leadership/participation in campus programs and/or community service activities. Students must be authorized to work in the United States and not require sponsorship in the future.
