Responsibilities:

This position is a critical leadership role in our new Beerse-based Colorectal Cancer Disease-Area-Stronghold (DAS). The colorectal cancer DAS biomarker leader is one of the three DAS leadership positions required to be co-localized in Beerse with the DAS leader and is a core member of the DAS SLT. In addition, the DAS biomarker leader is an extended member of the Oncology Biomarker SLT. The DAS biomarker leaders have responsibility for the biomarker strategy throughout all phases of drug development from Discovery, Early and Full development and Post-Market management. These individuals have to have very strong scientific backgrounds as well as deep experience in drug development. They will be the ambassadors for the biomarker strategy to internal senior leadership committees (R&D SLT, Oncology SLT etc.), governance reviews and Stage Gates. They will also represent their programs to KOLs outside Janssen and to lead biomarker activities for all due diligence work for their respective DAS. The DAS Biomarker leaders will manage staff in Belgium and be responsible for their OOPS, OPEX, Capital and Clinical/CDT Biomarker budgets. The DAS Biomarker leaders will be familiar with and drive healthcare compliance, safety procedures, training and manage regulations in Belgium.

Essential funtions: (Core Responsibilities)

- Be a member of the extended Oncology Biomarker SLT with solid line report to VP, Oncology Biomarkers
- Be a member of the DAS SLT with dotted line report to the Oncology DAS leader
- Lead Oncology DAS Biomarker team of approximately 5 FTE and contract staff
- Manage the DAS Biomarker budget (OOPS, OPEX, Capital and Clinical/CDT Biomarker budgets) (≥$3MM/year)
- Be responsible for the colorectal cancer DAS Biomarker strategy for all projects from NME through post-market studies.
- Develop and maintain external collaborations pertinent to delivery of the biomarker strategy.
- Develop the staff in the DAS biomarker group to take on more complex projects and improve overall scientific capabilities of the group.
- Coordinate and harmonized priorities across TA, DAS, CDT and Functional Areas.
- Be responsible for Safety, Health Care Compliance and Data Integrity for their teams.

Other responsibilities / Detailed duties:

Lead biomarker due diligence for all external assets being considered by the colorectal cancer DAS.

Provide high-level external visibility to the DAS biomarker program by publishing articles in peer-reviewed journals, presenting at major conferences and participating in external and other consortium activities.

Communicate colorectal cancer DAS biomarker strategy and build alignment with other groups in the Oncology TA (Discovery, Translational Medicine and Early Development, Full Development) as well as other groups including Discovery Sciences and Regulatory.

Qualifications


Qualifications :

Education:

PhD in biological field related to drug development. Completed post-doc with several years experience as an independent investigator (academia) or industry research experience

Related Experience:

5+ years in the pharmaceutical or biotech industry with experience of developing oncology drugs. Demonstrable knowledge of the biology of colorectal cancer is highly advantageous for this position.
