Position Summary:
Responsibilities
The Principal scientist Immune-Oncology will be a key contributor to the discovery and development of biologics/small molecules that function as immune modulators for the treatment of cancer. S/he will be responsible for managing a team of 3-6 PhD scientists/research associates and leading/overseeing research programs across the different stages of pre-clinical drug discovery. His/her responsibilities include the proposal of new discovery programs, as well as the design, execution and interpretation of in vitro and in vivo studies for the validation and characterization of new targets and therapeutic agents in the area of tumor immunology.
This position is a critical role in our new Beerse-based Colorectal Cancer Disease-Area-. and co-localized in Beerse with the Colorectal discovery leader.
The candidate will have substantial experience in studying the biology of T cells and/or myeloid cells, preferably in the tumor environment. The candidate will be expected to effectively collaborate with colleagues in the oncology, immunology and antibody development groups. The candidate will develop external partnerships/collaborations to advance internal programs and understanding of tumor immunology, with focus on particular tumor types (colorectal malignancies). The successful candidate will demonstrate clear and professional verbal and written communication, capable of presenting scientific results to multidisciplinary teams, senior management and at external scientific meetings.This individual will demonstrate the ability to contribute to various projects outside of his/her own, and collaborate with stakeholders from all relevant functions. S/he will keep up-to-date in the literature related to his/her field. Act as an expert resource in his/her scientific field and in related disciplines, and propose new tumor immunology targets.
Essential Functions:

- Lead Colon Immune-Oncology Discovery programs
- Initiate novel discovery programs
- Develop and maintain external collaborations pertinent to delivery of the discovery strategy.
- Develop the staff in the discovery group to take on more complex projects and improve overall scientific capabilities of the group.
- Be responsible for Safety, Health Care Compliance and Data Integrity for their teams.
- Provide high-level external by publishing articles in peer-reviewed journals, presenting at major conferences and participating in external and other consortium activities.

Qualifications
EXPERIENCE
Education:
- A PhD degree
- 8+ years relevant poat-doctoral experience in tumor immunology or a closely related field (immune modulation, cancer vaccines)., including 5+ years in the pharmaceutical or biotech industry with experience of developing oncology drugs is required.
- Experience with antibody based drug discovery and a track record of preclinical candidate delivery is highly desirable.
- A strong track record of publications in cellular and/or tumor immunology with a track record of publications in the field is required.
- Familiarity with tumor models and mechanisms of anti-tumor responses with strength in the analysis of the activity of T cells, macrophages and NK cells in anti-tumor immunity is highly desirable.
- Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to interact effectively with people, internally and externally is required.
- Ability to supervise and guide junior scientists is required.
- Knowledge in colon inflammatory processes is desirable.
