Vistakon Principal Packaging Engineer
Vistakon is currently recruiting for a Principal level Packaging Engineer for their Jacksonville facility.

The Principal Packaging Engineer will work within the Franchise Operations Development organization to support packaging needs of new and existing products and programs. The individual will work at an advanced technical expertise or SME (Subject Matter Expert) level involving development and design of materials, equipment, and/or processes related to medical device packaging. Responsible for working with product development teams to provide development, testing, validation, and implementation for product packaging. Develop franchise specific packaging guidelines & standards. Will work in compliance with relevant standards such as GMP, ISO 11607, ASTM, ISTA, and J&J Corporate guidelines. This position performs a variety of packaging related assignments utilizing a wide range of packaging materials including but not limited to primary packaging, secondary packaging and shrink films.
Adheres to environmental policy and procedures and supports department environmental objectives.
Plans, conducts and directs research, development or engineering assignments. Manages multiple projects across various disciplines. (60%)
Project management internally as well as at external manufacturers (overseas travel necessary). (25%)
Prepares equipment, process, safety and materials specifications and conducts technical analysis. (5%)
Develops and implements material, equipment and/or process enhancements that will improve product quality and yield, process sustainability and efficiency, and safety. (5%)
Performs other related duties as assigned by management. (5%)
Qualifications
Bachelors of Science Degree – Engineering or Packaging Science or equivalent with a minimum of 10 years packaging experience is required. Prefer Masters of Science Degree – Engineering or Packaging Science with a minimum of 8 years experience in packaging. Experience in packaging project management with minimum of 8 years experience in packaging development required. 5+ years medical device packaging development experience preferred.
Must be able to lead and/or support multiple project teams simultaneously. Knowledge of packaging materials, graphics, cartons, process development, validation, testing, equipment processes are preferred. Materials testing, documentation and ISO 11607 are also assets for this role. Excellent written and oral communication skills required. Excellent organizational skills required.
Responsible for Technical Leadership and mentoring others is required.
Attention to detail, prioritization & technical problem solving & sound judgment is essential.
A willingness to learn & train new team members to develop organizational capabilities in line with current and future needs.
