The Machine Operator I operates / tends machines used in a machine shop and extrusion work environment, such as manual lathes, band saw,drill press, plasma etch, strippers, grinders, braiders, and related measuring tools. Under direct supervision and in accordance with all applicable federal, state and local laws/regulations and Corporate Johnson & Johnson, procedures and guidelines, the duties of this position may include: Support with cycle count and inventory of material used in all production activities; Machine parts as a secondary operation with the use of drill press, manual lathe and grinder; Remove plastic and wire mandrels from extruded product, load and anneal production components; Sets up, adjusts, activates, and operates basic laboratory/ manufacturing equipment and machines in post extrusion area(Stripper/grinder, electro static leak tester.); Performs inspection of work in process, deflects product with the aid of tool jig and related tools; Measures work piece dimensions to determine accuracy of machine operation with the use of clippers, micrometer, pin gage (go no go), microscope and related basic machine shop and extrusion tools; Deburrs machined parts / components: Plastic(delrin) and Metal (Platinum, Palladium); When applicable, follows standard operating procedures for all tasks; Maintains clean and orderly work area. This person is responsible for communicating business related issues or opportunities to next management level and for ensuring subordinates follow all Company guidelines related to Health, Safety and Environmental practices and that all resources needed to do so are available and in good condition, as well as ensuring personal and Company compliance with all Federal, State, local and Company regulations, policies,and procedures. This person will also perform other duties assigned as needed.
Qualifications
A minimum High School Diploma or GED is required, and 6 months or more related experience. Must have good to excellent organizational skills, and be thorough and detail oriented. Must be able to successfully complete company/department training courses in manufacturing technique with the ability to learn regulatory (GMP) requirements. Must have the ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals, and have basic reading, writing and communication skills in the English language. Must have the ability to apply commonsense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; and reach with hand and arms. The employee frequently is required to stand and walk. The employee is occasionally required to sit. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision. Weekend and overtime work may be required. The employee is required to wear special garments when working in a clean room environment. Position required to work with a variety of manufacturing equipment. While performing the duties of this job, the employee frequently works near moving mechanical parts. The employee is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, risk of electrical shock and vibration. The noise level is often loud. Hearing and eye protection must be worn at all times while performing job duties. Safety shoes must be worn at all times while performing job duties.
