The Scientist 1, Fluids Reference Lab is responsible for the analytical testing of patient samples and other fluids. Calibrators, controls, CAP, SRM, ERF) to support the release process, stability, accuracy testing, and new method development, using multiple instrumentation including manual spectrophotometers (DU640), Olympus AU400, flame photometers (IL943), atomic absorption (Perkin Elmer Analyst 300), RIA (tritium), HPLC (Waters/Millennium), and VITROS systems. The Scientist I maintains instrumentation, calibrates, runs quality control, and analyzes requested samples. Summary reports, analysis of technical data, evaluation of quality control, and instrument troubleshooting are within the scope of this position. The Scientist I supports the reference laboratory, stability, the accuracy based release program and research & development testing needs as well as filling in as needed. Work is scheduled, supervised, and follow established methods and procedures. Compliance with regulatory, safety, and company regulations is expected. The Scientist 1, Fluids Reference Lab performs housekeeping to ensure the laboratory area is continuously maintained in a safe, orderly and compliant condition, advises supervisor of malfunctions/abnormalities and takes appropriate steps for resolution. Decisions are made on product performance based on tests run by technicians. Failure to meet these criteria could lead to an incorrect decision on product quality.

Qualifications


A Bachelor Degree in Chemistry/Biology/Medical Technology or related discipline id preferred. Previous lab experience is required. Basic operating knowledge of laboratory test equipment and automated equipment is required. Experience in handling manual Spectrophotometers, Olympus AU400, Flame Photometers, Atomic Absorption, RIA, HPLC, Gas Chromatography and VITROs Systems is preferred. A working knowledge of quality control, method validation and mass spectrometry is desired. Knowledge of GMP and ISO requirements is highly desired. Careful attention to detail is required. Ability to multi-task, adapt to changes in daily workload, and function in a cross-functional team setting is required. Planning and organization of daily workload, high affinity toward teamwork, and problem solving skills are desired. Some lifting is required, not to exceed 50 pounds. Manual dexterity for handling instruments, repetitive motions and standing for long periods of time is required. This position requires working in a lab setting which includes wearing personal protective equipment (PPE) and handling human samples. This position is A shift (7:00am-3:00pm), with periodic rotation needed to B shift (3:00pm-11:00pm). Periodic overtime including weekend shifts is required. This position is located in Rochester, NY and does not offer any relocation support.
