The Senior Scientist leads the workflow associated with monitoring, and validation of lens manufacturing processes & water purification processes through Microbiological testing. The individual leads investigations of non-conformances in the manufacturing process for bioburden, environmental conditions, water quality and recommends corrective actions. The Senior Scientist provides technical support for the evaluation and implementation of new products and packaging materials. The individual works with Regulatory Affairs, Quality Assurance, New Product Development, Marketing, Engineering, Customer Relations, Operations, and Materials Management. The position provides technical leadership regarding equipment qualifications, test method validations and leads quality program / test method improvements where needed; as well as supports laboratory adherence to environmental and safety policy / procedures and department's environmental and safety objectives.
The Senior Scientist provides support to Operations to include testing or supervision of testing for product and environmental monitoring. The individual leads validation projects and recommends new methods to support laboratory compliance and efficiency. He/she participates in department company safety objectives. The Senior Scientist prepares or approves protocols, final reports, laboratory investigations, etc. The individual reviews, trends, analyzes and reports data recommending appropriate actions. He/she reviews product or process investigations or reports. The Senior Scientist reviews the work of others and provides technical guidance as needed. The individual develops, writes and revises internal department procedures. He/she learns and introduces new laboratory technologies. The Senior Scientist qualifies and recommends purchases of new equipment and can perform other related duties as assigned by management.
Qualifications
A Bachelors Degree of equivalent in Microbiology or related field is required. A Graduate Degree is preferred. A minimum of 4+ years experience in QA/QC Microbiology Laboratory setting is required. A thorough understanding of Microbiology and Sterilization Sciences is required. Familiarity with regulatory guidelines (ex. FDA, ISO, AAMI, etc.) and audit experience is required. Experience using aseptic technique is required. Understanding of GLP and GMP is required. Ability to initiate, explain, and sell innovative thought processes and ideas. Strong communications, interpersonal, coaching, and organizational skills. Previous experience with technical writing is required. Project management related skills are required. Ability to technically review documents from other areas for departmental impact. Ability to contribute to and lead a cross-functional team and provide quality customer service. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Working knowledge of regulatory submissions and statistics. Ability to meet timelines and work with minimal supervision.
This position is located in Jacksonville, FL and may require up to 10% travel, domestic and/or international.
