The Senior Software and Systems Engineer will have a primary focus on embedded software and systems design, structure and implementation. The Senior Software and Systems Engineer is considered a technical authority in the development and deployment of the convergent technologies needed to bring new and innovative products to market. Under the general direction of the Research and Development Manager, the Senior Software and Systems Engineer will carry out or direct the development of complex/ novel assignments perhaps requiring the development of new or improved techniques or procedures. The Senior Software and Systems Engineer will be responsible for the proper application of technologies, process and convergent product offerings that ensure the highest quality most reliable, innovative products on the market and will regularly mentor and develop the knowledge base of other less seasoned technical professionals and will stay abreast of new technology affecting the enterprise. The job will require extensive knowledge and experience in product risk management, requirements development, verification and validation techniques, structured software designs, digital electronics, sensors, mathematical algorithms and fault tolerant medical safety systems.
The Senior Software and Systems Engineer will lead internal or external designs and evaluations that support the development of new and very advanced concepts in diabetes management / insulin delivery technologies; Develop and own product technology strategy, design structure, assist in creating product development and top-level product documentation to meet product development goals. He/she will also lead, develop and implement design characterization or design verification strategy for efficient, complete and robust testing through report completion and anomaly resolution or independently perform tolerance, error budget or other design analysis by extending or adapting existing methodologies; Lead the establishment of design requirements from VOC and translate into objective and meaningful lower level engineering requirements including those of a complex or difficult nature. The incumbent will interface between product development team and the legal team in areas of intellectual property landscape, invention disclosures, invention disclosure expansion and patent application filings.
This individual assists with conformance to Animas design control policies to ensure product quality through technical review of work product of other team members and projects; provides technical leadership and is a recognized company expert on technical aspects of internal and external products and systems; develops and delivers technical presentations to internal stakeholders including technical design architecture, costs of features in terms of cost and schedule impact. He/she will also be responsible for the design and development of embedded software for both feasibility and final design; create detailed design documentation and system analysis/performance assessments; create detailed verification and validation plans. This position requires up to 10% domestic travel.
Qualifications
A Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Software or Computer Engineering required. Advanced degree (MS/ PhD) preferred. A minimum number of four years of relevant experience is required. Strong knowledge of FDA Design Controls/ISO13485 and medical device product development experience OR experience in a highly regulated environment is required. Strong knowledge and demonstrated successes in the development of complete medical/ healthcare systems OR safety critical systems including embedded software is required. Prior experience in designing and developing fault tolerant and redundantly safe systems and software is required. Strong knowledge in C++, C and object oriented design is required.
Experience in system modeling, algorithm design, simulation and software technologies and tools for embedded systems design required. Strong knowledge of digital electronics, microcontrollers and sensors is preferred. Strong track record of creating detailed design documentation with a focus on standardization, rigor and engineering discipline is required. Candidate must be able to weigh, document and articulate the strategic and tactical alternatives that deliver complete, reliable and high performing and safe systems that meet customers’ needs. Excellent communications skills and the ability to work as a team player are required. This position requires up to 10% domestic travel
